Photos by Mitch Cramer Urban Wildlife Appreciation Day, Saturday, May 5, 2012 NYTTS participated for the third year in Urban Wildlife Appreciation Day, held this year in Inwood Hill Park at the top of Manhattan along the Harlem River. The event was sponsored by the New York City De­partment of Parks & Recreation and the Urban Park Rangers. Similar events were held in parks in other boroughs. The day was cloudy, but the public was enthusiastic as Barbara Dad­dario and Lorri and Mitch Cramer fielded turtle questions, while Judith Barber administered colorful turtle stamps to the kids. Native New York turtles on display included a spotted turtle, a common snapper, an east­ern spiny soft-shelled turtle, eastern box turtles, and a red-footed tor­toise (to show the difference between a tortoise and a turtle), and of course, a red-eared slider (the ubiquitous invader). Visitors included NYTTS members Janice Glock-Jones and Rhea Green­berg and the LaGuardia Community College biology class.
